meet Dr. Bruce Zahn

Dr. Bruce Zahn Ed.D., licensed psychologist in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and is Board Certified in Clinical Psychology by the American Academy of Clinical Psychology. He is approved by PSYPACT to provide telehealth services to clients in 42 states participating in PSYPACT. Dr. Zahn has many years of clinical experience with a diverse range of patient populations and ages, ranging from adolescents to older adults. He specializes in the treatment of anxiety and depression, social anxiety, ADHD and related executive dysfunction concerns, panic, OCD, health-related problems and coping with medical diagnoses, and adjustment issues in aging. In addition, Dr. Zahn is a US Department of Transportation Qualified Substance Abuse Professional and sees individuals with substance use disorders and other addictive problems.

Dr. Zahn participated in training in cognitive behavioral therapy at Dr. Aaron Beck’s Center for Cognitive Therapy in 1985-86 under the guidance of Arthur Freeman, Ed.D., ABPP. At the invitation of Dr. Freeman, he joined the graduate core faculty in the APA-accredited doctoral (Psy.D.) program in Clinical Psychology at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, where he held the rank of Professor and Director of Clinical Training from 1999-2021. Prior to his appointment at PCOM, Dr. Zahn served as Director of Psychological Services and Cognitive Therapy Program at the Penn-Presbyterian Medical Center of the University of Pennsylvania Health System, where he collaborated with David D. Burns, MD, the author of Feeling Good: The New Mood Therapy, The Feeling Good Handbook, and Ten Days to Self Esteem.

Dr. Zahn received his BA from Rutgers University, MA from Fairleigh Dickinson University, and doctorate in School Psychology at Temple University in Philadelphia. He retired from full-time faculty at PCOM in 2021 and remains active in part-time private practice in Spring House, PA, as well as adjunct teaching in the doctoral program in Clinical Psychology at Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. In addition, he is an avid music lover, having studied classical trumpet for many years and currently plays cornet in a British-style brass band. He has also participated in non-singing supernumerary acting roles over the years for the opera companies in Philadelphia alongside the likes of Luciano Pavarotti, Beverly Sills, Frederica von Stade, Richard Tucker, and others.
