meet Dr. Allison Funk

Allison Funk, Ph.D., is a New York State licensed psychologist and senior staff member at the American Institute for Cognitive Therapy. She holds advanced training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). Dr. Funk earned her Bachelor’s degree from the University at Buffalo Honors College and her Master’s and Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Hofstra University. She has served as a therapist at the Saltzman Community Services Center, the Mount Sinai Addiction Institute, and CUNY Graduate Center Student Counseling Services. She completed her APA-accredited internship at the Jesse Brown VA Medical Center.

Dr. Funk is passionate about creating a warm, collaborative therapeutic environment where clients can explore challenges, set meaningful goals, and pursue lasting change. She has particular expertise in treating anxiety disorders, mood disorders, and trauma. Dr. Funk also specializes in working with emerging adults (age 18-30) navigating issues such as academic and work stress, relationship difficulties, perfectionism, and procrastination. Her treatment approach draws on evidence-based therapies tailored to each client’s unique needs, and is informed by attachment theory, evolutionary psychology, and neuroscience.
